For the love of a dog...

At the beginning of October of 2008, it rained three days in a row and I was kind of in a down mood. I decided that the cure was a puppy. Lauren and I had talked about getting a dog but not seriously. But the weather had led us to know that the time was right for a new friend.

Never did I think that I would ever fall in love with a dog... but now my precious angel Jackson has proven me wrong. I wouldn't trade anything in the world for my snoring, string-cheese loving, trash destroying, bed hogging, dog-park obsessed mutt! :)

Lauren and I went to the shelter with the intention of adopting a full grown lab that was preferably house trained. Since we were in class we felt like this would be best because we probably wouldn't do well with the house training. So when we got to the shelter they showed us our "dream dog". This beautiful black lab, about a year old and house trained. We took her outside to play with her but she didn't have much interest in us. We had seen Jackson on the way in but just passed him up since that wasn't what we had come for! But after looking around for a little while we just had to hold him! In order to hold him we had to fill out some paperwork. In the process of filling out the papers, they gave Jackson to Lauren and he just latched on. We were in love and had to have him! His tag said he was a coon hound.

When we got him in the car he was so scared! He sat in the middle between us and just cried. But once we got him home he took about 30 minutes to check things out and suddenly felt right at home! Despite others' advice I allowed him to sleep with me and he still does! And even though he does like to sleep horizontally, taking up the most room possible... I hate sleeping without him!

So here is a little slideshow that sums up Jack Jack's first year and a half! :)
